While he was on the Moon, astronaut John Jameson found the mystical Godstone, an other-dimensional ruby. The jewel grafted itself to his throat and extended tendrils through his body. Moonlight activated the gem, which transformed him into the lycanthropic Man-Wolf, and he fought Spider-Man in this bestial form. The ruby was seemingly removed by Spider-Man, but its power had integrated itself into Jameson's body and the gem eventually reconstituted itself inside him, causing him to uncontrollably transform into Man-Wolf at random intervals.

- In Ultimate Spider-Man, these stones were found inside the moon, and it is only necessary to touch one of them for a stone to appear in the clothing, and the changes to lunar werewolf happen. Along with the stones was a hologram that showed that aliens used this stone to create a kind of wolf-themed magical warrior, that would be the reason why in this version, John became a mixture of the Stargod warrior with the uncontrolled Man-Wolf.
- In Marvel's Spider-Man, a crystal called the lunar crystal alluding to this appeared, this crystal uses gamma radiation to affect the "latent wolf traits" in human DNA (in the animated series, human DNA is like that). Harry tried to use it to create humans, but it only resulted in werewolves, everything is reversed when the crystal is broken, but Hulk is hit by its power first, and turns into a werewolf and has to be reversed by the characters.
