History[]

Overweight and shy, Marsha Rosenberg lived an ordinary life in Denver, Colorado. She befriended fellow outcast Mary "Skeeter" MacPherran, and the two survived by sharing fantasies of being superheroes. Marsha even believed Mary when she told her that she was, in fact, Spider-Woman. A secret that she later shared with others, leading to a rift between the two.

However, when the Secret Wars began, both Marsha and Mary were abducted by Doctor Doom.[1] He offered them great power at the price of their servitude to which they agreed. Marsha's body was genetically modified by alien technology and given the ability to transform into a molten lava form, suitable for her new codename of Volcana. Mary, likewise, was given incredible physical strength and durability, taking the name Titania.

During the war on "Battleworld," Volcana first battled She-Hulk. She later fell in love with fellow supervillain Molecule Man.

After the events of the Secret Wars, Marsha gave up villainy and attempted to live a peaceful life with the Molecule Man. This was short-lived, however, as Volcana often found herself helping others with her powers, even the Avengers and the Fantastic Four on occasion. She later ended her relationship with the Molecule Man.

Years later, under unknown circumstances, Volcana returned to committing criminal activities. She reunited with her former best friend, Titania, and helped battle She-Hulk over her Blue File.[2] She-Hulk managed to defeat both supervillains, and Volcana was presumably imprisoned.[3]

Powers and abilities[]

Marsha gained the ability to transform into a plasma form after being genetically modified by Doctor Doom. While in her plasma form, she has superhuman durability as well as the power to emit controlled bursts of fire.

Later, Volcana discovered a way to transform her body into volcanic rock, which empowers her physical strength to superhuman levels.

Testing her powers even further, she realized she could transform into a volcanic ash form.

Volcana is able to transform between the three forms, as well as her human form, at any time she chooses.

In other media[]

  • Volcana appears in The Super Hero Squad Show episode "Villainy Redux Syndrome!", voiced by Grey DeLisle. She is shown to be the girlfriend of Molecule Man and aids him into helping Doctor Doom, MODOK, and Abomination break out of the Vault. In the episode "When Strikes the Surfer," Volcana was seen with Nebula (whose mouth was removed by Thanos using the Reality Gem) and Molecule Man at a galactic diner. When Volcana discovers that Nebula has no mouth, she has Molecule Man create a new one for her. Nebula tells Molecule Man and Volcana that the Dark Surfer is causing havoc. Doctor Doom approaches the three villains stating that they should band together to trap the Dark Surfer in the machine Doctor Doom once used to drain the Silver Surfer's powers. Volcana joins Doctor Doom into attacking the Dark Surfer. Dark Surfer ends up sending the villains on Doctor Doom's side through a portal.
