Wasp is a founding member of the Avengers and one of She-Hulk's closest friends.

History[]

Janet van Dyne was the wealthy daughter of world-famous scientist Vernon van Dyne. After her father's death, she recruited Henry "Hank" Pym to help her find the killer responsible. Janet underwent a biochemical procedure using Hank's "Pym Particles" to gain the ability to shrink her size, as well as grow bio-synthetic wings on her back. She chose the codename Wasp, and together with Hank (calling himself Ant-Man) defeated the alien who had murdered Janet's father. For years, Wasp served as Ant-Man's partner until they joined with Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to become the Avengers, a name Wasp picked out herself.

Years after forming the Avengers, Wasp became chairperson of the group. She made an active effort to include more women on the Avengers roster, which led to the recruitment of She-Hulk. Over the years, Wasp and She-Hulk grew to be close friends. As a fashion designer, Wasp created several outfits for She-Hulk to model.

Later, during Avengers Disassembled, She-Hulk was hexed by Scarlet Witch, which led to her beating Wasp into a coma, as well as ripping Vision in half. Wasp (and Vision) recovered, though it spiraled She-Hulk into a deep depression at what she had done.

Currently, Janet van Dyne has been training a brand new Wasp, Nadia Pym.
